Sun foods

August, 2006

by Morella Devost

Have you heard about sun foods or raw foods? This month I want to dedicate a section of the newsletter to sun foods. Sun foods are the foods we take in their natural state, without processing or cooking. In other words raw. We call them sun foods because they contain all of the energy and vitality that plants create by transforming sun energy. They are plants and all their parts: fruit, seeds, stems, leaves, sprouts, roots, etc.

Eating sun foods is beneficial because they rebuild you at the most fundamental levels. They restore your body with all the vitamins and minerals that can be depleted through eating too much meat, dairy and cooked vegetables. Furthermore, sun foods have all their enzymatic capacity which is a great thing! The additional enzymes are fundamentally healing because enzymes are vital to all life processes. We need enzymes to digest our food, to burn fat, to move every single muscle, to think, etc. We need enzymes to live.

Heat destroys enzymes. Therefore, cooked foods lose their enzymes and our bodies have to work harder to break down the foods in order to digest them. If our digestive system doesn't have sufficient enzymes, our body draws upon its enzyme reserves from our organs and glands, which they actually need to function effectively. The result is that, over time, a lack of enzymes in our foods can weaken our overall vitality.

So, the moral of the story is: eat more raw fruits and vegetables!! They are delicious and they are great for you! You'll find some raw recipes and resources in this newsletter. Try them out. I myself am finding radical transformation through eating more and more raw-sun foods. Try it!
